Southern Journeys Travel

One of my coworkers is being harassed by "Southern Journeys Travel". This harassment is being perpetrated by Dowd Marketing at 23 S Oak St, Mt Carmel, PA 17851 - +1-570-788-8878. They have been asked repeatedly to not call back but persist.

Her daughter decided that it would be cool to sign her up at the Mall to win a Hummer. I dont think her daughter wanted to sign her up for this! If anyone has further experience with this company post away. There doesnt seem to be too much on the internet. They do however treat their employees with as much respect as they do their unwilling customers

  • Tonight my husband and I went to their siminar which of course was to sell vacations. The prices were very appitizing. After, the siminar, everyone was set up with a sales person and they threw on lots of pressure. They offered us financing, and even dropped the price considerably for us. Finally, after an hour the sales person sent us to one last sales person to receive our "free gifts". Again the pressure was on. We recieved our gifts, one for a 3 day 2 night stay at locations through out the U.S. via www.worldwidetravelcenter.com. Also, we recieved 1000 gift card to goshoppingmall.com... the prices there are okay, but I get it!!...they make their money off of the shipping and handling!!!! So 20.00 for the babysitter, 2 hours of waisted time, 1/4 tank of gas, I got some worthless gifts!!!!

  • Thank you for sharing your experience. I almost fell for this myself! Thanks also to my hubby for making me look into this "scam".

  • Just recieved a call from this marketing firm as well. I filled out an entry form to win cash or a car. Well, "They haven't had the drawing yet," but I was selected to take part in a vacation opportunity. Long story short, I just told them to contact me if I win the cash or car. Period.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 8:08 AM

  • My friend & I both received phone calls from Southern Journeys Travel yesterday. We had visited a Country Peddler craft show and signed up for a drawing to win crafts merchandise. We got together yesterday and compared stories about the phone calls we received and about our "prize." During the course of my friend's call, she was told that it was in the "fine print" about signing up for the trip. We both were told that though the "big" drawing had not taken place yet we were "specially selected" to win a 3-day, 2 night vacation to either Orlando or Las Vegas, which covered airfare and accommodations... all we had to do is come listen to a speaker for an hour or so. We were told that they had an office in our area, though neither my friend or I recognized the name. I smelled a scam right away. If you win a prize, it should not be attached to something else. Furthermore, if it is a legitimate travel agency, they should have a local number, NOT a toll-free one!!! My friend was told that all one had to do was pay the taxes on the airfare & accommodations and THAT was the only "catch." Personally, I will not talk to them if/when they call again, free vacation or not!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 5:45 AM

  • Thanks for the heads up. I, too, signed up to win a car at a home and garden show, but had no idea who it was attached to. I received 2 messages today that they have not yet had the drawing for the car, but guess what...my wife and I won a 3 day 2 night stay in Las Vegas or Orlando. I think those are phone calls I will not bother to return!

  • Though most of you make a good point, I happen to work for a call center that deals with Southern Journeys. For those of you who get called "repeatedly", this is because you filled out more than one entry form! (Which you aren't supposed to do by the way). Southern Journeys is NOT a timeshare! It's a discount travel company. The reason they give out these vacations is because they spend no money on other advertisement such as television, radio, or other media. Basically, it's just good word of mouth advertisement for them. The vacations are legitimate. I am taking my cruise within the next 16 months and I'm paying $180 for it! Wow, I'm glad I "wasted" my time for a whole hour and a half... Everyone has their way of advertising, this is just the way we do it. And may I suggest that when a representative calls you and you are not interested, don't hang up because they will call you again. Simply say PLEASE put me on your do not call list... Thank you!

  • actually, my wife and i have been members of Southern Journeys for about 4 years, and we have taken some great trips. It is true that their marketing is a bit ridiculous, but the concept is not bad and they actually have a very professional and courteous booking office.

  • My boyfriend and I kept receiving persistant phone calls from a 504 area code. We finally answered and were told that we had won a free vacation from a drawing we had entered at the fair for a ford truck. We, like alot of people it seems, felt like something was wierd about the whole thing. So, we got online and found all these comments! Thank God!!! Everyone that left a comment on here saved us a lot of frustration and time! Thanks everyone!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 10:30 AM

  • Ok first it is not per say that people sign up for more than one thing. My husband signed us up to win a Harley at a baseball game. This was 3 months ago. I get about 4 phone calls a week from Southern Journeys regarding my vacation. Every call is call back now this promotion is ending tomorrow. Funny they are not ending. I guess the ignoring the calls is not working so now we are going to tell them to stop calling.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 8:59 AM

  • Good luck on telling them to stop calling you. My husband and I both asked them to stop calling over three weeks ago!! We are still receiving 4/5 calls a day from these people. And we only filled out ONE (1) entry form!!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 12:54 PM

  • I used to work there. When you want a telemarketer to stop calling you, you ask to be put on their Do-Not-Call List. You must specifically mention the list, and you must stay on the line to confirm your name and telephone number. Otherwise, the company is not required to stop calling.

The so called good advise comments are from employees trying to make a name for the worthless piece of crap company they represent.

You could also consider that some of us were just there for a paycheck. There still aren't many worthwhile jobs in the Mount Carmel area. Telephone operators are given limited information. Their job is to get people to appointments and/or seminars, which are usually held in different states. Once a person shows up for an appointment, the operator earns a small commission. The rest is left to other people, who the operator usually never meets. Do you think the average operator cares more about making a stranger's pocketbook fatter, or about putting a hot meal on the table at least a few times a week?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 4:15 PM

  • Getting the same phone calls mentioned here. They won't stop! They're on my answering machine nearly every night for the past few weeks. Learned my lesson about signing up for something "free".

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 1:44 PM

  • Southern Journeys is not a timeshare nor is it a scam. They are part of the Travel Advantage Network. It is a company that provides members with timeshare accomodations of other companies at a discounted rate. People who are ignorant(meaning uneducated about the situation) are so afraid that they are going to get scammed that they scream and cry instead of listening and learning and then making an educated decision. I went to one their sales meetings and was NEVER pressured at all by my salesman named Steven. I was unclear of how it all worked after the hour long speech given by two of Stevens managers. The only thing that the salesman did was to make sure that I was clear on the ways to use it and the areas i could use it in as well as to show payment plans. I said no to them because it was not the way that my wife and i travel. We do not go to most popular vacation destinations any more- we have been there and are exploring areas of Asia and Australia now for ourselves. The only thing even close to pressure was the suggestion that our family could use this plan as well. We ended up paying a discounted cash rate for a package of 12 weeks of vacation that my sons and their families have now used 3 times and my wife and i have used their 198's 3 times for short getaways.

Please people if you dont want people calling you. Play by their rules that were set up by the government to regulate them- ask them to put you on their Do Not Call List. Otherwise dont be so afraid of getting taken advantage of that you miss out on the opportunities of life that are presented to you. Please also make sure you understand WHAT you are saying no to before you say it. These people are Americans just like you and I and the three people I dealt with Steven, Tim, and Mike were far more intelligent, educated, and passionate about their work than i have seen in most professionals in the highest fields of work, and all the while they cared about us both and remained very friendly and unpressuring.

  • I, too, was sucked into this company(?) by signing up to win a Ford F250 truck at a recent RV & Boat show. Got the first phone call last night and when I tried to return it - it was a computer/fax signal. Got another phone call this morning saying I won a 3 day/2 night vacation in Vegas or Orlando, blah, blah, blah but I had to come into their office by appointment with a debit or credit card and drivers license to get the free tickets. Thanks to this google search and posts by so many of you fine folks - I'm cancelling the appointment and not falling for the scam. THANKS EVERYONE !!!!!

  • All of you people are liars!! I went into Southern Journeys Travel 3 months ago and I recevied my 3 day 2 night trip to vegas or orlando with airfare...my husband and i went to orlando with the kids and had a wonderful stay in a marriott and we extended our stay through the company and got a major discount...plus we bought disney tickets for almost %50 less then anywhere else...and all we had to pay on the airfare and trip was the taxes plus what we added on which was a steal for the price. its like a free trip, taxes are nothing!!! seems like none of you people are happy with anything....we had a great time and since then we returned and bought a 10 vacation package. We are very happy. Unlike you ungreatful people!

  • Your story about Southern Journeys Travel is false and I suggest you learn a little more about the company before you go and make a web blog up full of false statements. The company recently sued a blogger like yourself for making up lies about the company. So I would strongly suggest you remove the blog before you have yourself a lawsuit. Just friendly advise. I would take it and remove your story.

  • My husband and I attended a presentation last night in Tulsa, OK. Although we did not buy a vacation package, I do think it is a great deal to lock prices in for a "lifetime". WE are looking forward to our "Prize" of 2 airfares and accomodation in Las Vegas. And maybe when we get back we will buy a vacation package.

Although we did not buy a package, I thought everyone was very nice and professional with us.

  • We too are being harrassed by Southern Journeys Travel after repeated attempts to be put on the DO NOT CALL list. We are not interested in an appointment and wish to be left alone. We get two calls daily and we're sick of it but do not know how to stop them. Any help?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 2:51 PM

  • I work for Southern Journeys. We get a lot of people that have said they get calls through out the day. We use the phone through a computer that dials numbers for us, and if there were multiple things you signed up for you'll get a few calls. We make notes at the bottom of every call about how the phone call went. If you hang up with out us knowing...you go back to redial. For you to get off of our list you must answer (I'm sorry if this is painful) and tell us to remove you from the list. It is just the rules that we follow for our job.

Before I worked here I used to hang up on telemarketers myself. But now I realize I should probably listen to them first before I do so...because I know for sure that we are not a scam so maybe there are others out there that aren't as well...

They are a really good company to work for, and the people who work there are just like you and me. I'm shocked at the things they give away! Whenever we get new vacation packages, we all at work tell each other "No one is going to believe us!"

    But hey...it's your loss...!!

  • Before making negative posts and thinking straight away this is just a scam to get your money, you should check with the Better Business Bureau. "This organization is a BBB Accredited business." off of the website www.bbb.org Do your research there, NOT on blogs!!

  • Does anyone have the phone number for Southern Journeys in Tulsa, OK.

We also went to a presentation, got our "free gift" of a 2-night stay with airfare to Reno, Orlando or Las Vegas through SPIRIT INCENTIVES, Ft Lauderdale, FL. We went thru all the months of sending & receiving paperwork and mailed a $50 deposit and finally got to where we could book our trip. We mainly wanted the free airfare, so they offered the 2 night trip and I asked what it would cost to stay a few extra days, since the basic package was arriving after 10 pm., spending one night, the next day & night and then having to leave the 3rd day before 9 a.m.... doesn't give much time to do anything while there. When the gal came back on the line with the extension offer, it would have been $864, so I told her we wanted to stick with the original basic package and go ahead and book that airfare. She said there was one offer presented and if we didn't take it, we were out of luck. So, she put a supervisor on the phone and the she said the first flights were not available anymore, that once they let it go while checking the 2nd option, someone must have taken it. What a crock!!! I got on line with United Airlines and there were over 40 seats still available on that same flight. It was just SPIRIT INCENTIVES way of getting out of paying our airfare or the trip. I AGREE WITH OTHER POSTS, SOUTHERN JOURNEYS AND SPIRIT INCENTIVES IS A SCAM!!!! And, now I'd like to call the Tulsa office and let them know what I think and can't find their number. Any correspondence I have from them does not have a number and I remember when we went for the presentation, they always called us, we didn't call them to set anything up. If someone has their number, I would appreciate having it. Thanks.

  • I just posted the previous post asking for the phone # of the Tulsa Southern Journeys office. I didn't realize it would post me as "annoymous said"...

Anyway, I might clarify that while SOUTHERN JOURNEY AND SPIRIT INCENTIVES might not be a SCAM, they certainly are deceptive and hard to work with!!! I have never had nn experience like this with any other travel company, whether it be fore hotels, bookings, time share or "free" offers. They just make it so they have so many options of getting out of giving away the trips. It was totally ridiculous!!!

  • I would just like to say that I work for Central Marketing in Kenner, La. which sets appointments for Southern Journeys of Texas and Oklahoma and can honestly say that it is NOT a scam. If people are ignorant and buy a $3000 travel package without reading the fine print, it's the consumers fault, not the company. You do not have to BUY ANYTHING for your 3 day 2 night getaway, you get it for your time! You are under no obligation to purchase anything at all, it's a choice and that is what capitalism is all about. If you would like to be taken off of the call list or set an appointment for your TAX FREE Mexico getaway worth $1900 and a $20 gas voucher for your drive, please call 1-888-991-9949 and we will be happy to do so.

  • Oh and by the way to all of those who think that these entries are 'bogus', they are not. These are legit prizes that will be or have been given away. We, Southern Journeys do not actually give the Harleys or the Cars away, the Companys do that, BUT we are having a $50,000 cash drawing on Christmas day, which we do EVERY YEAR. We want you to attend the 60 min. presentation to get our name out and of course we would love if you purchased a vacation package from us, but you DO NOT HAVE TO in order to receive the gifts which you are promised once you set the appointment.

  • My cousin and I actually purchased what was suppose to be a great way to escape. Give them 48 hours notice and you pay $99.00 to stay in a suite, condo or lodge. What a joke ... every time we tried to find a place to go, there were no singe rooms so cost was $250.00 and oh it was always peak season so that was another $250.00. We paid about $180.00 every month for 2 years, plus the $900.00 we put down. That is about $5200.00 wasted. We never took a trip and we never got our money back, but we finally got them to cancel the contract. I still my go to the BBB.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 12:07 PM

  • Good to read all this. My wife and I signed up to win a Harley at the mall and I got a call from Southern Journeys a few days ago. I don't want, or need, to mess with this kind of thing. I'm going to cancel my appointment and have them definitely take me off of their call list.

  • We went to the one in Tulsa yesterday. They told us that we could deposit our timeshare weeks with them and they would guarantee our vacations as long as we gave them 60-90 days in advance. Now we find that they do not have accomodations in the areas we prefer to visit and nothing outside of the US other than Mexico and the Carribean. Most of the US also is not included in their inventory, but this information is not presented until after you get home and check the website address they gave you. There is no way to get train tickets as promised and no Alaskan cruises available for 2009. Europe, Asia, etc are not available for condos (you can get discounted hotel rates at select locations.) We are cancelling. This is misrepresentation and fraud.

  • We agreed to visit the Tulsa meeting on Sat. I am always under the assumption that these are companies trying to sell something so I understand what Saturday will entail. Of course, we wouldn't buy anything, but I still want a night or two away even if I have to endure the agony of the sales pitch. My question to the telemarker was, "So...even though you told me I was a finalist, I'm assuming you're calling everyone that put their name in the box." She said, "no, only 150 total, 25 out of each box." If that's a lie, I'm assuming they can be sued. My question is, is a car even being given away? Would anyone know that information?

  • My husband and I attended one of their "seminars" on Tuesday. We were the ONLY couple there! That should have tipped us off to RUN. My husband is always signing up for and falling for these schemes. He filled out an entry to win a motorcycle. You guessed it, they haven't had the drawing yet (and by the way, we never could pin ANYONE down about when they WILL have it). When they called him they promised 300 power ball numbers for just listening to a 1 hour presentation, in addition to the trip that he had already won. The trip is almost impossible to book and is NOT free - you must pay a deposit of $100 that will be "applied to your travel expenses" and you can only travel from select cities. I don't know if we are in one of those cities, as every time I try to check it out at the website listed, I get an error message. Also, you have to sit through ANOTHER sales presentation at the destination! Hmmm... As to the power ball numbers: we don't get the tickets. They bought them and any winnings will be split between the entire group of people that attended sales presentations at ANY of their offices (across multiple states) during the month of January. Also, if the winnings divide out to less than $1.99, no one gets anything, the company keeps the loot. I'm no math whiz, but it seems to me that you would have to win the BIG prize to even have a chance at winning anything, and then who's to say the list of folks to split the dough is even legit. Let's see, the prize is $50,000, so we need just about 25,001 names to make sure no one wins anything! They bragged about all their many offices, they have seminars twice every week night and 6 times on Saturday and Sunday; that's 96 seminars per office. Surely they usually have more than the 2 people at our seminar, tables were set up for about 50 people. Now say only about 30 show up, that's almost 3000 people to split any prize at just 1 office. Don't waste your time with these folks!

  • I went to the thing yesterday. I did not buy anything. I did listen and pay attention and I ran the numbers.

    Hypothetical situation:

If I decide to take 3 weeks of travel per year over the next 6 years it works out like this.

    What your buying:
Standard Package - 30 fully willable and transferable one week hotel stays in a lodge, villa, or suite for 11k

Over the next 6 years I will pay.

One time Membership fee - $150
    Down Payment - $900
    Monthly payment - $180
    Yearly Tax Fees $339
Commission for each one week booking $100
Peak season surcharge - $30 per night

If I assume every night of every 7 night, 8 day vacation is in peak season and I stay within the 1 to 4 people limit my total cost for 210 (30 vacation package) nights in a lodge, villa, or suit is $23,148 over the 6 years.

I will pay total over 6 years:
    membership 150
    down payment 900
    remainder 10800 (60 pmt of $180)
    yearly taxes 2034
    commissions 3000
    peak fees 6300
    total 23184

Thats $110 per night... I was planning on paying that much anyway. I don't plan on staying in $400 a night rooms to often. Most decent rooms when I travel are $230 a night on average so yes this is legit and it is a great deal! What if I wanted to stay in a villa in Hawaii? That's like $400 a night! My villa in Mission Bay outside San Diego was $240 a night for two people.

If you travel a lot in the next few years or want to give them away or whatever, this is right for you. Retirees, rich people, this is perfect. For me? Not so much.

This is just for the hotel rooms. Food , flights, and all that jaz is extra of course. It puts more money in your pocket to spend on vacation. It's like a pay as you go thing so you have more cash for the vacation.

Someone please correct me if my math is fuzzy. The yearly tax fee is likely to increase over time. Maybe 4%? I didn't get the details on that.

  • First of all, the argument of every morally unethical company operating on the fringe of what is legal and what is illegal is that the buyer should beware. It's never the fault of the used car salesman selling the unknowing buyer a lemon, it's the buyer's fault for being an idiot. This is a criminal mindset, one that searches for ways to constantly appear "legitimate" without actually being legitimate. It is a business practice similar to a game of three card monty or a bait and switch. As soon as the scam is discovered for what it is and no longer is effective, the name changes, the location changes, the come-ons are altered, and the criminals (yes, they are criminals) set up shop again. The argument of employees that they have to feed their family by scamming people is ridiculous. They are salesman, they work there because they are good at selling, they are good at using smoke and mirrors to sell something to you you did not want, under terms you don't understand, and they are master manipulators trained in techniques to do one thing : not let you walk out. Why do people wonder how they walked in knowing they would not buy anything and walking out rationalizing what they just did? Because the salesman knows what he is selling is a screw-over, so he has to use ridiculously high-pressure and manipulative tactics to sell it. Employees of the company are fully capable of working somewhere else, period. If a person works for a company knowing that company is engaging in unscrupulous business practices, that person is guilty and deserves to be held as accountable as the President of the company. The whole point, as everyone I read in this blog has made, is that they entice you in with any means possible. Get you in the door. RED FLAG! If they were selling a good product, one that actually SAVES you money on travel, they would not have to lure people in like a Venus Flytrap, the people would walk in on their own. The other point to realize is that this is not a scam by ONE company. This is a NETWORK (as they say themselves). The BBB is not going to shut them down because they scratch the back of the lodging, hotel, and airline industries and vice versa. Southern Journeys is "fuzzy" on what they do. Another RED FLAG! Do they sell timeshares? They say no. Why? Because the public is repulsed by the word "timeshare." They actually sell futures. The ability to book "time" at a location in the future. Assuming you could not do this yourself, and assuming they are getting you a "better" deal. This is what Priceline does, but they allow you to make informed choices with specific information. This company explains NOTHING in detail and forces a contract onto people who have received NOTHING of value. RED FLAG! You are not buying a car here. At least with a car you drive out with SOMETHING. This is a rear-end job, and I don't mean a car crash. The contract is UNENFORCEABLE, it will not stand up in court. Anyone, at any time, is free to break the contract! It is a unilateral contract where the terms are poorly defined, lopsided, and written by EXTREMELY IMMORAL LAWYERS WHO ATTENDED SOME PRETTY AWFUL FOURTH TIER LAW SCHOOLS. It is designed merely to frighten and scare the person who is ashamed of having been taken and feels "obligated" to these criminals. Criminals hide behind the law until it catches up with them. I am a lawyer. My girlfriend was taken by Southern Journeys. The law cuts both ways, gentleman. Federal District Court will find you. Very soon.

  • here is another tip. when the office looks like they moved in the day before, and the chairs look like they came from Wal-Mart, and pictures of happy customers on the wall look like pictures that they use of random people when you buy picture frames at the pharmacy, and the salesman has a card swiper at the desk like he works at McDonalds, you might be dealing with some BULLSHIT ARTISTS. Hummers? Cruises? Who would not want that? Does this company look like they can even afford to buy a HUMMER? Maybe the CEO drives around in a 1982 Chevrolet Chevette.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 7:34 PM

  • Forget all comments by anyone associated with the company. Duh. They have a reason to spin bullshit. Trust your gut. If it smells wrong, it is wrong. If they are selling a good product, why the high pressure? Use common sense. If it seems complex or a lot of number mumbo-jumbo, it is.

    membership 150
    down payment 900
    remainder 10800 (60 pmt of $180)
    yearly taxes 2034
    commissions 3000
    peak fees 6300

Maybe 4%? I didn't get the details on that.**********

This is written by someone associated with the company. This is MUMBO-JUMBO. The math is fuzzy. The numbers are coming straight out of his ass, picked out of the air to add up to a "deal." If you were getting a "deal" in the long run, how do they make money?

Here is a common sense experiment. For those already deep in the mudpit. Try to figure out the math of the costs you actually pay without all the bullshit and the commissions, peak fees, whatever crap terms they use to confuse the math and treat you like you are an idiot (even though none of these people have beyond a high school education) and then realize...You can't. It's fucking impossible. It's designed so you can't.

It's a fucking mortgage-backed security of the travel industry.

  • It's a scam. It's very much a scam run by people who obviously will claim it's not a scam.

Don't be fooled by people who operate like this, and don't assume they don't know they can be sued. They are very aware they can be sued, and will back off as soon as they even get a hint of legal action.

  • Their call center is in a suburb of New Orleans. I did some research on this company and found out a few odd things that some of you might be interested in. First of all they are a front for a company called Travel Advantage Network. If you look this company up on the BBB you will find quite a few addresses for them and different company names listed. there is a Southern Journeys of Texas too.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 8:26 PM

  • I went to the presentation, but before I did, I checked Southern Journeys out with the Better Business Bureau. They have an "A" rating, so I went with an open mind to the presentation.

I did not feel pressured in any way.

I chose to purchase the plan they offered and have taken vacations with them.

The accomodations are first rate, and I never have a problem booking a vacation.

I find it amazing that all of you folks crying wolf do not own the plan. You went to a presentation and got a free $300 gift and went home to bitch online because you can't afford to buy the plan. So sad.

And for those of you that think Southern Journeys is a scam, check out the Better Business Burea.

The only complaints they have are these online scam buzzes that are from people that are NOT owners of the plan.

You can't buy it online, and that should be a clue to you. Online travel companies are a scam.

Southern Journeys is a sales office for Travel Advantage Network, and that company has a stellar rating with the Better Business Bureau as well.

So, if you have an invitation to go and listen to the presentation, go ahead and get the free $300 gift. If you buy the plan, that is up to you, but you will still come away with a vacation for which you only pay taxes. And it only costs you 90 minutes of your time.

Then, after all is said and done, don't go bitching online and complaining about a company that you know zilch about.

    My 2 cents worth.

  • For those who keep posting all the crap about the BBB...

There are too many people who have at the very least felt extremely deceived by this company. The marketing methods used are not honest. Using contests supposedly unrelated to the travel industry as a way to build a potential client list is wrong. Signing up for the small possibility of winning some prize exposes a person to marketing calls and puts their name on a list used by an extremely PERSISTENT company. The people who want to use the service, it's true, will use the service, and if they like it, great.

The people who are pissed off are all the ones who ran afoul of the extremely tough sell where they did not really want it, but felt pressured and almost guilty to not sign up. Grabbing customers this way and locking them into contracts is not right. For those who have been screwed, take a tough lesson, never deal with these assholes again, ever.

And for the company, you can't build customer goodwill through techniques like this. It will work for a while, bring in cash, but eventually the word will get out and you will have NO CLIENTS and your business will fail. It's a smell test, people. High pressure tactics mean the product ain't that great. They have to FORCE it on people. And use that bullshit excuse of you gave them your info. No, you didn't, almost everyone had no idea where it would end up. And they don't WANT people to show up, listen, and walk away with a free vacation. They would go out of business. They have to hook some people.

It's the marketing that fucking sucks. Try a different channel before you go out of business. Word spreads quick. Especially on the web. Which is why company employees keep posting shit.

To the anonymous person that cusses a lot. I believe I already stated up front that I do not work for Southern Journeys or any parent corporation nor do I know anyone personally that does. I had never heard of them before I went to the place. I run numbers all the time. I have a minor in accounting. I work with complex business rules on a daily basis and the proposal presented did not seem to be anymore complex than the average cell phone contract. They did not seem to have hidden fees that I could find although I would not be surprised if there were some. They were not high pressure but judging by the responses here it would seem there are some associates that are.

I stated up front that I paid close attention. I am always very skeptical. Honestly, unless you are retiring or you have a good deal of disposable income I don't know why you would be interested.

As for how they make money:
I'm guessing there is a little truth in what was said at the presentation. They do volume business, they own some of the hotels while other hotels they have a vested interest or partnerships with. They probably count on you using one or more of your one week stays but only staying for 3 to 5 days for many trips thus allowing them to re-book the room. Then there is the obvious advantage. A room with people in it makes more money for the hotels, airlines, employees, restaurants, car rentals, and cabbies than an empty room does.

  • Is it a scam I don’t know? I understand marketing. Let be real people nobody give out a free car for nothing their also going to be a pitch. On one hand think of it this way if I you got a coupon in the mail for a free gallon of milk, would you then tell a friend the grocery store tried to cheat you because they tried to sell you something after you got the milk. Also I worked at call center if you told me F’off, Rude, talk to me like you were better than me, or cussed at me. I would call you three time a day or till I got tired of calling you. On the other hand if you said I talked to me like I was adult and said hey could you please put me on the do not call list I would say okay. also No I do not work for the company but I will this about the company or rather companies like this the 3 day 2 night trip for free I got leaves in June. I will say I was disappoint when I found out my flight left at 10:00 pm from Chicago and leaves Orlando at 8:00 am. Unless I pay for a upgrade.

  • How can anyone think this is a legit company and a legit offer? If you won something, why would southern journeys need you to bring a credit card to the meeting? And for that matter, why would you need to sit through an hour meeting to get your free prize? I dare you to find a working webpage or a listing in your local phone book for Sothern Journeys. Seems that if you were a legit business you would have either or both.

  • My husband signed up to win a motorcycle at a bike rally. Last night, we got a call from Southern Journeys (Oklahoma) saying that we were "finalists" for the motorcycle and the $50,000, and that we "won" a free 2-day trip to the Bahamas. I told the lady that sounds fishy to me--we either won the motorcycle or didn't, if it is a drawing, and they don't "give away" other prizes. She kept telling me how lucky we were to win this great package and all they needed to do was set up an appointment with us. She could not answer any questions, and she was pretty rude--if I asked something, she'd say, "I just TOLD you . . .," even though she hadn't. I said, "Now where did my husband sign up for this?" and she said, "At the bike rally." I said, "Which rally was this?" and she said, "The last one he went to," so clearly, she has no idea. I told her that we weren't interested in any prizes that had a sales pitch attached, thanked her, and hung up. They have already called back this morning, despite my telling her we are not interested.

If you want to attend a sales pitch and get your "prize," that is up to you. We are not interested, the woman I spoke with was very unprofessional, and I'm annoyed that they called back after I told her that. I will be sure to tell them to put us on the Do Not Call list and see if that helps.

  • Bought from them already

They won't like this, but wait till you get to the exit interview, you can buy it for ALLOT less and get the same value!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 2:19 PM

  • I recently bought into Southern Journey's spill. I felt ok about the purchase until my husband asked, "what happens if your company goes bankrupt?" Our sales persons reply to this question was, "As long as people keep taking vacations and are bribable (yes that is the word he used) we'll be in buisness. I don't want to leave anywhere after a purchase having been told that I was bribed! But I had already made the purchase. So when I got home I cancelled my credit card and I am waiting for them to try to sue me. I did recieve advice from an attorney before I cancelled my card! My advice to anyone that is thinking about going to one of these meetings....don't! Save your money and pay for your own hotel room or villas! Oh yeah, as for the "FREE" cruise... our sales person told us it was a joke...it was just to get people to come in. He said, and I quote, "do you think anything is free?".

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 7:31 AM

  • I have also been through a southern journeys timeshare presentation. All they did was pitch "heat" and tip toed around answering questions. The "main" boss told me sad stories about how him and his wife traveled using this before she died. I would later find out that this was just a lie to make me feel sorry for him and his wife was fine and alive. The free gifts are almost impossiable to use and if you can get to use them the taxes are around 400 dollars a person. I went to the one in Richardson, Tx after I was a "finalist" to win a new hummer. This is no doubt a scam and I feel sorry for anyone who was con artist into buying a package from them.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 12:45 PM

  • How they got a A rating from the BBB blows my mind. This is no doubt a scam.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 12:46 PM

  • Guess what everybody...I went to a concert 10 years ago, almost got wrapped up in this and they kept telling me then that the drawing has not happened yet...TEN years ago. Somewhere about 4 years ago, again I filled out for a drawing at a sports game, they called and called and called and tried to get me in the office for MONTHS! Everytime I asked who won the drawing, "Oh, well the drawing has not been taken yet" And for the third time now, back in 2008 I filled out to win a car or cash. Now it's Oct. 2009 and they just called me again...and over a year gone by and NO DRAWING HAS TAKEN PLACE YET...!

  • I went to one of the seminars recently. I'm always skeptical of such things, and know they are going to use high pressure sales. I like to think that I know which questions to really ask. After talking to the sales rep and asking to read the base contract, I discovered a few things. You are signing a contract with no way of getting out of it... unless you finish up your 24 trip package. They charge you $339 in "tax" fees every year, even if you don't take a trip that year. Unless you pay in full, you are financing the $9000 plan through them and getting charged a 10-15% interest. They seemed to be able to make some changes to the contract, so I asked if they could write in a provision to break the contract if I decided I didn't want to use the service anymore. They would not do it. I don't want to be stuck in an unbreakable contract, paying $339 a year, until I use the 24 vacations or pay the full $9000.

After I didn't bite, they sent me to another salesperson to get my free gift. He gave me a different pitch. Basically an $1000 up front fee for 10 trips. $99 a year, but you aren't locked into a contract. I didn't trust them at that point, so I left.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 9:07 AM

  • My mom fell for this pitch over the phone and since she doesn't drive, she had me take her to it in Tulsa this morning. She told me she'd "won" a vacation package, but had to show up at 11:30 am to claim it. I asked her if she was told to sit through a presentation. She said she'd asked the guy if it was a time share, he said "NO MONEY WOULD BE TRANSFERRED" I told her that nothing that we've EVER won, you have to show up precisely at a certain time to pick it up. I reminded her about the free year's supply of bananas she'd won from Reasor's grocery store. She just went in and told them who she was, they gave her her 52 coupons for bananas! I told her I wasn't going in, and asked her if she would tell them no if they wanted her to stay for a presentation. She said she'd turn around and leave. Of course she didn't and she handed ME the stupid clipboard they handed her. I was fuming! There were 2 couples and a couple single people and us. It was typical, and if the guy wasn't lying about the antecedotal stories he was telling--I will eat my hat!!!!The lie about gal who supposedly said that one thing you need to take on vacation--she said "clothes" and the guy "sitting right there..." (pointing to a guy sitting in the supposed chair) got up and went to her and said "depends on what beach you're going to" plus the lie about the whole room being filled up. In your dreams, buddy! Well after the 1st guy, another guy comes in and gives us the money pitch, of the 9000 for 24 weeks. Plus only 30 days of that would be peak days. That's a heck of a lot of time left that you have to go on off-peak plus pay that surcharge! So then we get herded into the typical time share set up; they knocked the price down to 3500 for 14 weeks. When we didn't bite, we got herded to the guy who then offered 6 weeks for 1200, 100 down today and 100 a month for 12 months. hmmm, I don't claim to be a math student but I think that's 1300, not 1200. There were also a discount on the taxes to be paid every year. Wow...why did they wait till they thought we weren't going to buy to reduce all these prices? And how can you reduce the taxes? I thought that was government taxes? Apparently not.

By Blogger Pam, at 9:48 PM

  • ...ahem, I wasn't finished and it posted anyway...

I agree with the other posters that the office they had was just cheap furniture that they could move out overnight. And the pictures on the wall were pictures of people who supposedly bought that load of crap (The guy said they had bought since the 2 years they have been in Tulsa); they were standing in front of the mural of a beach but most
of them were not in front of the beach mural that was posted on the wall I saw! The guy that talked second in the presentation room claimed he had bought that package 18 years ago, paid only 3000.00 for it, la la la. He said he lived in Jenks, a bedroom community of Tulsa and hadn't worked for them that long. So how did he hear of that place 18 years ago? I wished that I had written down some of those names and looked them up on the internet or in the phone book. I think they are fake people, or at least not all Tulsa people. Oh, and read the fine print on your vacation certificate. The one my mom got said that you have to call in 15 days of receipt to book your vacation. But it's good for a year. But you have to tell them not later than 30 days in advance of the vacation, or over 90 days from the date. Pay $50 refundable deposit to book it(I couldn't see how you get it back) and pay $25 if you need to change the date. I guess you can then use it up to a year?
Oh, and one more thing, they kept saying that we could not buy the package and just accept the "bribes" they had--The way mom had explained it to me, was she'd won. How does that equal to a bribe? I was more than a little offended.

I have never stayed in nicer places in my life. The reservation office is so very nice and friendly to! It is so easy to book vacations through them, they have always done everything I asked of them. Me and my family would have never been able to travel like we are because of Southern Journeys! Thank you Southern Journeys, you have truly given my family a quality of life I would have never had without them!

  • Hi there!
I would like to burn a theme at this forum. There is such a nicey, called HYIP, or High Yield Investment Program. It reminds of ponzy-like structure, but in rare cases one may happen to meet a company that really pays up to 2% daily not on invested money, but from real profits.

For several years , I earn money with the help of these programs.
I'm with no money problems now, but there are heights that must be conquered . I make 2G daily, and I started with funny 500 bucks.
Right now, I managed to catch a guaranteed variant to make a sharp rise . Visit my web site to get additional info.

WHEN the marketing company calls you they also ASK FOR AN EMAIL ADDRESS so that they can send you an email conformation so you can READ what you just agreed to, honestly people do you really think that you get things for free in life? Taxes, you have to pay taxes on everything!!! I have worked for this company for over 8 years, I still have a job and have benefits and get a paycheck every two weeks just like everyone else in america, yes we are going to try and sell you something, yes they will call you until YOU say take me off the call list, YES we want you to buy a vacation package, if you don't personally I don't care just take your gift and leave, don't rain on my parade because you do not have the ability to say " put me on the no call list " OR have the ability to READ what you sign when you sign up for car's and cash. You people are insane.

  • So... my wife and I have experienced several similar marketing strategies such as those used by Southern Journeys. The key point here is it is a legitimate marketing strategy. I am not suggesting that all of the approaches used by these companies are completely ethical, but it's not necessarily a "too good to be true" opportunity.

Yes, you'll have to sit through a presentation about a vacation package. Yes, you may have to deal with high pressured sales reps. But if you know where you stand, the offer stands. We went to the presentation and came out with our 3 night cruise voucher.

Yes, you will have to read the fine print and follow the instructions. You get what you pay for... so don't expect the most amazing experience, but hey... my wife and I are going on a cruise for less than $400. I can't complain.

What was really funny about our trip to the Southern Journeys in Tulsa is we were prepared for the worst. Our meeting was scheduled for 8pm (last one of the day). When it came to the pressured sales following the presentation, all of the sales guys weren't interested in pushing us into a sale, so they just let us walk out with our gift! :) So... moral of the story is if you're going to attend a session to get your free gift... go to the last session of the day... and STAND your ground!

And... enjoy your free gift(s)! :)

I do not reccomend working for them they are fake scamming crooks. And not only that you will not feel good about yourself when you leave there. Do not sign up and do not give them the $20 upfront to make the appointment.

  • My husband and I went to a car show this last weekend in Oklahoma City and put form in for a drawing for a free Mustang. The next thing I know I'm getting a phone call from a 504 area code. I finall answered it today and was told that I was one of the finalist for the car or $50,000 and would be notified by mail who the winner was, but I also was a winner for a free 3 day cruise to Mexico or the Bahama's on Carnival or another cruise line. Everything paid for except alcohol and something else. Or we could do a weekend at Orlando or Vegas we just needed to come in and answer some questions, it would be an in and out thing, maybe only take up to an hour. We would also get so many PowerBall numbers since the pot was up to whatever millions it is up to. Plus for coming in we will get a $20 gift gas card. They told me the address and I have never even heard of it and I am pretty familiar with the street they said they were on. I told them I would have to call them back to set up a time with my husband, but I'm pretty sure after finding this site and reading everyone's comments that won't be happening. It all sounded to fishy to me.

  • I signed up at the Bixby Blue Corn Festival and "won" a free trip. However, I had to agree to listen to an hour long presentation AND give them a $20 deposit. I would receive my $20 back, a $20 gift card and a trip. Ok...fine. Not knowing what it was about, I go to the presentation and was suspicious when the magazines on the table were from 2003, 2004 and 2009. hmmmmm weird. I enjoyed listening to the sales spiel, nice guy. Finally the hour was up but....then I had to talk to another guy who turned up the heat and really pressured me to buy in. I declined as nicely as I knew how. THEN I was taken to another guy who was to give my my free gifts....NOPE! He was another salesman pressuring even harder. I told him that I really didn't care to go through it all again and thanked him for his time. HE GOT PISSED AND SLAPPED THE FOLDER DOWN AND SAID "HERE YA GO...HAVE A NICE DAY". I was initially shocked and then livid. They gave me a check for the $20.00 (I gave them cash) and a form that has to be sent in for the gift card. 8 - 10 weeks!!!!!!!! My FREE trip is going to cost $375. NEVER AGAIN WILL I EVER LISTEN TO SOMEONE'S STUPID SALES SPIEL TO GET ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 10:35 AM

  • You naysayers are in my opinion a bunch of wussies that are a sign of the times. Obviously people have become so scared of taking any chances that the second something looks slightly fishy it's automatically a scam. Look up the definition of scam sometime nowhere does it say a scam is someone trying to sell you something by legal means or giving you a vacation for a significantly reduced price. My wife and I signed up for a drawing at a mall for a Harley and got the call we won a free vacation if we would come in and pick up the tickets so we took a chance and went to the seminar. For our extremely expensive 2 hours of "wasted" time we received a 3 day/2 night stay at any Marriot of our choice and free plane tickets to the location all we pay is taxes which all said and done was about $200 for us to go on a wonderful weekend getaway to New York City. On top of that we received a $250 Shell gas card that we had to send in for but we still got it. We then went completely insane and actually purchased the package they were selling and let me tell you what a mistake! Now my wife and I have to stay in 5 star resorts for $373 a week to almost anywhere in the U.S., Mexico, or the Caribbean. So if that's you all's definition of scam I wish I got scammed more often.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 4:01 PM

  • My husband & I sign up for these free drawings every chance we get, just to get a chance to be awarded cool incentitives to listen to interesting sales pitches. As long as doing so is no inconvenience for us, being given cool incentitives is a great way to take short get-aways for INCREDIBLY cheap prices, as some here have pointed out.

Who cares about when they have the drawing? You're not going to win anyway; someone else is. Stop entering drawings if you don't want to get calls.

I was informed during the initial call I received today, that I would receive incentitives for listening to their offer. I chose the free airline tickets, but later realized that it may be the same scam (the travel part, not necessarily Southern Journeys) as the first time share pitch I attended. With that company, you paid your $50 "reservation request" fee, and month after month, the days you chose to travel weren't available. Plus, at least half the days of each calendar month were blocked off as unavailable before you ever paid the $50, so it'd be really, really hard to book those days, so putting you off would be very easy. A news crew even signed up and never could fly, no matter how flexible they offered to be. The video of the report was on the Internet. After a certain amount of time, your $50 fee (for taxes, etc., as mentioned in some of the posts here).
The last one of these sales pitches I went to, the incentitives were so-so. I've enjoyed many a fine meal at a rather good discount, and had two great vacations this year. However, the $40 in free gas vouchers thing is not looking good. They claimed they mailed the vouchers to me & that they were returned. I have Netflix. If there's an issue with my mail being delivered, I'd know it. So, they sent them again & they're still not here. They seemed very nice on the phone, & willing to cooperate, but it's not looking good. To repeat, though, I have had a good time and benefitted overall by attending Silverleaf's sales pitches.

I did purchase at Silverleaf. I recommend doing your own research about timeshares before buying. Start at tug2.net, the Timeshare Users Guide. You'll find everything there you need, and millions of links to whatever you don't find there, in regards to timeshares & how they work.

Finally, so far it's been my experience that these companies have a variety of incentitives to offer, so holding out for better deals is also fun. You'll know what kind of deals by doing your TUG homework.

Now I have to plug my own blog, Inexpensive Romantic & Family Get-Aways: http://nxpense.blogspot.com/

  • I think it was shady that they gave me an 1-888 number instead of just a local number when I asked if I could call them back. They do have an A+ BBB rating. However, I got roped into one of these "seminars" through a very similar company before. It was quite painful. These things seem like a great deal for some people, but not us. I wish they could believe in their business enough to be totally up front when they entice you into siging up for these giveaways. And why did it take them at least a year or two to call us? We haven't been to a RV and boat show for at least that long and that's where they said we signed up for the contest (that yes, we are a finalist for). I would actually like to hear from someone who has won the grand prize before...

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 10:22 AM

  • Got a call today from SJ. I cant vouch for any scam (no message was left) however I do recall asking the attendant at the booth (twice) if I waould be receiving any spam, any promotional offers for time shares or travel opportunitites or phone calls for anything other than a winning conformation for the car or the cash. I was assured both times that this was not a data bank collections promotion, that it was either a win or not; in her words "a simple drawing." So, if the company misleads it's contracted employees, I can only assume they will mislead me. I would have not signed up for the $50,000 or the car had I have known I was placing myself on a call list!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 4:19 PM

  • While the marketing firm used by this company is way too aggressive, the actual product they sell is phenomenal, and I would recommend it to anyone. Yes, they use the same marketing firm as many time share companies so they can get people in the door, but this is NOT a timeshare company, they basically sell a package where you pre-pay for up to 24 vacations at TODAY's prices (financing is available, and I got mine at 0% interest), and when the dollar inflates, you STILL pay today's prices. Definitely a good buy, and the sales reps were very helpful. This is a product I believe in 100%.

  • My boyfriend and I got a call back from this company. We are skptical with these types on phone calls. but I have to say, the lady on the phone was verry nice. She told me that we were "finalist" in the drawing we gave our information to during the Texas State Fair. Long story short, we agreed to come to the seminar they had and we kept an open mind. They did try to sell us multiple times on vacation packages they offered... but at no time did I feel uncomfortable. Honestly, if mine and my boyfriends time off was more structured, we would have bought a package. We didn't but they did deliver the "bribes to get us there" that they promised. They did try to sell us up to the end of the visit there but were no way "high pressure sellsmen" I left with a couple of cool goodies and a great experiece. I don't think they are con-artists just a compnany tring to sell a product. No matter what this compay is a good company to recommend.

  • I love it when these freaks call me. My method of getting rid of these bottom feeding scrubs is to befriend them and get to know them and then freak them the hell out.... The last time which was yesterday that one of these assclowns called me, she told me she had 3 children and I asked her how she would feel if I came over and ate one of their heads off and sprayed the other ones with the squirting blood coming from the other....It usually does the trick to get them to "hang up" ON you!! HAHAH freaks

  • I went to one of their presentations a few weeks ago. It wasn't as bad as everyone made it out to be. I didn't feel extra pressure to buy. But they did take the time to describe everything in detail, and that took a while. At the end, I did buy a small package to see what it was like. I haven't taken any of my vacations yet but I will follow up when I do.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 3:51 PM

  • My wife and I "won" a vacation also a few years ago. You are corredct that their sales approach is much likea timeshare. However we do travel a lot and decided to buy a package. We have had great experiences with them so far. If you like to travel it really isn't a bad deal.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 12:56 PM

  • !! DON'T DO IT !!!

Do not fall prey to this "travel opportunity". Sure they put on a good presentation and give away a couple "Free" gifts for coming in, but just like the "Free Gifts", there are many strings attached and very limited choices to utilize.

My wife and I handed over $3000 to Southern Journeys here at the Richardson, TX branch. So far all we received for it was a "free" trip to Vegas and a Restaurant.com gift card. The gift card (like Southern Journeys) is VERY limited in choices to eat, much like Southern Journeys... After looking at their travel options, they have very limited choices for us to go travel as we quickly found out that it was indeed timeshare/condos! I assume everything but Scottsdale, AZ books quickly because there were no other destination choices to choose from from now until November. Even then, there were hardly any other choices. I think it said 'California Desert'..??? Seriously???

In addition to this scam -- I attempted to login to the website and it hasn't let me in in over 2 weeks due to a password error. I have called in 3 times, each time waiting for over 5mins to have an agent tell me that their system its down and they would call me back. Haven't heard a thing from them yet.

I know I am out of the money for being stupid but I hope this helps others! I have also filed a report with the Better Business Bureau to warn off any other potential victims.

    You have been warned!!!

  • So we just got kicked out of a southern journey presentation for asking questions because I have a brain. Anyone that bought the product got scammed. Let me break it down for you in simple terms. The product is 9000 for 18 vacations. Most people will use those over the course of 18 years unless they give them away according to the presenter. So we are in for $9,000 and a 1 time registration fee of $150. Now any time you want to use a weeks of vacation it costs you $129 so to actually use the 18 weeks of vacation you need to pay another $2322. So now we are sitting at $11,472. Now each year you hold the vacations you need to pay $339 in taxes. It is a flat fee each year no matter how many you use or do not use. If you do not vacation for 1 year you still owe the $339. If you do 2,3,4 vacation in the year you still only owe $339. So let's use the research that the presenter said they have where people take 1 to 2 major vacations every 1 to 2 years. So that works out to about 18 years. So 18 years of taxes add up to $6102. WOW!! If you add up the total $17,424. WOW! That is just for you hotel that doesn't include flights or 10 day trips. When I go on vacation I seem to find really good deals. I stay at the Marriott Renaissance and since I have a amex card I usually get an amazing deal. I am staying there again in a few weeks for less than $80 a night using my Amex card. Also looking on websites such as flyer talk and really just doing some research with Orbitz is always helpful. So the true cost of the 18 vacation is roughly 1000.00 where’s the discount. The whole thing about today’s prices is a load. I am a very frequent traveler and I pay the same amount that I paid today for the same rate 12 years ago looking at my Marriott statements. What is different is the additional level of comfort you can buy.
Anyways I felt I need to post this so others who may not see them coming is coming. Oh an believe me they were playing the numbers game to people in the room. I just an really good at math and could follow along.

  • I would be interested in knowing if anyone has successfully terminated a contract with Southern Journeys. I would also like to know if anyone has gotten sued for not paying them.

  • Didn't anyone get the option of taking a tangible gift vs just the vacation offers? I was offered a 7" android tablet in lieu of a vacation package for my time. Wonder if it would be of any decent quality or fall apart upon receipt. Curious.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11:25 AM

  • Southern Journeys is absolutely not a scam. We are a legitimate company with 3 offices in Oklahoma and Texas. We are accredited members in GOOD standing with the BBB and the Chamber of Commerce in all three of the cities our offices reside in. The android tablet is a new promotion we are doing, so chances are many of the people posting here did not have that option as this post originated a couple of years ago. If you are a member of Southern Journeys and are having issues with your membership or are confused how to use it please contact our member services department, the phone number will be in the membership packet you received when you signed up.

By Blogger My Southern Journeys, at 2:35 PM

  • Also the Android Tablet is a google tablet the model # is M709 if you would like to look it up. It is of good quality and worth the cost of shipping and handling. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to contact me directly at 405-593-8222 or via email at sj.hollie@gmail.com.

  • Southern Journeys is a part of a very elaborate network which also includes SmarTravel, Sundance Vacations and TAN. There are an incalculable number of unsatisfied clients who purchased vacation packages that they have either not been able to use or found the accomodations to be unsatisfactory. There is a wealth of free assistance, information and support for those who wish to get out from under their agreements with any of these vacation companies. Go to "Boycott Sundance Vacations" on Facebook and feel free to post your comments, concerns and/or request for assistance at the following link: https://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Boycott-Sundance-Vacations/172805172735470

  • Yes canceling a contract happens on a day to day basis but don't sue because of the fact in the contract states if you open up a line of communication with southern journey's we would put the contract on hold for however long you needed with no compound intrest if it you even pay intrest but if it causes a hardship in your financial statements you can cancel its not hard talk to the AAA( AMERICAN ARBITRATION ASSOCIATION) DON'T CALL SOUTHERN JOURNEYS TO GET IT CANCELED...

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 10:30 AM

  • Southern Journeys is not affiliated with TAN, Sundance, or SmartTravel. Please do your research before involving our company's name in a boycott that has nothing to do with us. Thank you.

  • I don't know about everybody else but we won a trip and so far we've gotten our free 100.00 restuarant card and have booked our arrangements for our trip. yeah they were rude but we don't let people like that get to us. And actually this is the third time in 3 years that we've won but due to my husbands work we didn't get to take our first two. They know us pretty well, just go in and tell them we've seen the presentation and we want our certificates. Its only a 30 minute drive and we always end up going out to eat and shopping afterwards. Maybe some people do get scammed...I don't know. I'm going to take advantage of them when and where I can...that much I know.

This is nothing but a scam. You can get great deals through tour companies with a travel agency.

Go for the package deals that include air, hotel, and transfers from the airport. Any time you include those three in a pakcage deal and you have double occupancy, you will get a good deal. Some packages even include meals.

They want 9,000.00 dollars for 18 trips of 7 nights, plus 129.00 for each booking, and 339.00 every March (regardless if you travel that year). The 339.00 is suppose to cover all the hotel taxes. This is only for hotel stays. I repeat this cost is only for hotel stays. They get to tell you which hotels you can book. What a scam.

They stated they can work this out into monthly payments. Think about this. What if they go out of business? You just threw money in the trash.

The prizes are stupid and worthless. You have to mail off for the tablet in which you have to pay $14.95 for shipping and handling. They said they would give 300 lottery tickets. They provided a piece of paper that states the numbers they purchased.
    ((((((eye roll))))))))))

The old man that gave the presentation is extremetly rude. One of the attendants got up to go use the bathroom. He told him to use a cup instead. He also kept making rude comments to everyone in attendance.

This scam will probably work on anyone who has not traveled much.

If you make friends with a travel agent, they will let you know about package deals that become available at great, discounted prices.

No. I did not want to go to this presentation. I already knew this is a scam. My boyfriend dragged me to it.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 2:02 PM

  • My husband and I attended one of their seminars in Tulsa. Although we did not buy a package, it does seem like a great deal for people that do travel a lot. We also got a free cruise just for attending and it only costs us $200 for taxes! Now that's a great deal! This place is definitely legit, not a scam

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 10:41 AM

  • My husband and I did go and signed up on a monthly plan and have to pay a $200 extra a yr plus are monthly payment!! We have not went on a vacation yet and we are having financial problems, I did call them and told them that we just couldn't pay any further and the lady told me we could not get out of this I really don't know what else to do they take the payment out of our checking monthly!! If anyone knows how we could get out of this can you please post? Thank you

  • OK For all of you stupid boneheads that are wining out there, it is not a scam. What you idiots problems are is that you are interested in the FREE GIFTS instead of cheap vacations. What they have to offer which is cheaper vacation trips in condos as opposed to motels for you. Try getting a condo for about $500 or $600 a week. Try even for $800. I am a member and am tied into My Vacation Quest.com for my condo system. I have been staying in places on the water for almost 15 years in Florida. I stay in places like Destin, Panama City, Apollo Beach,Barefoot Beach, Cape Coral and Marco island. I have saved so much money and some of the resorts are incredible.
My last vacation week I paid $99 and did not use any of the weeks I bought. They had a sale of excess inventory. A cool incentive if you are a member. If you have a large party there are spacious 2 & 3 bedrooms and some have washer & dryers in the unit. You are what you eat and you dummies go for a free gift. I tell all of you that if you are someone that is interested in vacationing a better way then this is for you! If not stay home and forget your dumb free gifts. It is your own fault that you get mad at being approached with a sale. Morons!! That is what you are going to. A presentation about vacationing. I went because I was interested in vacations. Don't go to it dummies!!.....I would hate to be staying next to one of you morons in a 5 star nice resort condo with the attitudes you have...Screw you! I have enjoyed mine for years.

  • We went to a southern journeys presentation and surprisingly they weren't pushy. In fact, we were actually sold on the idea and purchased. That is until we got home and started investigating further into the places they offer. The condos and suites are very basic and just weren't up to our standards. We prefer a 5 star with several amenities. They just didn't offer enough resorts to choose from at each available location. We will be canceling our membership and receiving a refund. However, the free gifts do make it worth the one hour of time to listen to the presentation.

could connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having 1 or
